Frequently asked questions

Things you may be wondering

Do I need to know what to talk about?+

No. We can use the first conversation to decide where to begin, and I can ask more focused questions if that feels easier than starting with a broad one.

Will you tell me what to do?+

I may offer questions, observations, information or options, but I will not make decisions for you.

What if I find talking difficult?+

Sessions can include notes, writing, images, silence or more direct questions. We can discuss what helps and review this together as we go.

Is counselling confidential?+

Most of what you share will remain confidential. Before counselling begins, I will explain the limited circumstances in which I may need to share information, including concerns about safety or a legal requirement.

How will online counselling work?+

Sessions will take place through an agreed secure video platform. Before beginning, we will discuss privacy, technology, what to do if the connection fails and whether online counselling is suitable for you.

Will you offer a concessionary rate for student counsellors?+

I intend to offer a limited number of concessionary spaces for student counsellors undertaking personal therapy as part of their training. These sessions will offer the same confidential, thoughtful counselling relationship as standard-fee sessions. Availability will be limited, and confirmation from your training provider may be requested. The concessionary fee will be published before the practice opens.

Can I book a session immediately?+

The planned first step is an introductory conversation rather than an instant counselling booking. This gives us both an opportunity to consider whether working together feels appropriate.
